Application Use Cases

A seal plan 53b system is designed for demanding sealing applications where it's necessary to have an externally supplied continuous pressurized barrier fluid source. Typically, Plan 53B systems are selected when the application requires a higher pressure range than accumulators provide for extended periods or that the customer requires long-term pressure stability beyond the capabilities of an accumulator.

Typical applications of the Plan 53B system include offshore platforms, remote oil transfer stations, and pipeline booster pump installations because of the ability of this system to maintain the control of barrier pressure in areas that have limited access or greatly varying operating conditions. The use of an external pressurization method gives a Plan 53B system great flexibility in its configuration and provides stable isolation performance.

In addition, Plan 53B systems can be used for heavy industrial duty applications (e.g., the high-pressure handling of hydrocarbons, production of synthetic materials; and application of certain energy forms). Therefore, these systems can provide longer operating cycles and lower seal related down time due to maintaining steady-state sealing conditions.
