Application Scenarios

The application of double seals goes beyond the pumping industry to include applications where there is increased risk from shaft movement and process failure as well as to provide additional protection.

Typical applications include:

• Agitators and mixers that have vertical shafts and carry a varying load
• Processes that require agitation of a fluid or viscous material and therefore may have increased movement on the shaft
• Tandem mechanical seal arrangements that are utilized to provide additional safety through staged sealing
• Installations of equipment that are utilized have a secondary form of protection in the event of a failure of the primary seal

All of these applications are primarily concerned with providing a means of continuous operation and controlled failure as opposed to minimizing costs.
