Applications
Edge Welded Bellows
The use of edge-welded bellows is expanding into applications where reliable seals, long-term durability, and effective compensation for mechanical misalignment are required.
High Temperature Applications:
Edge-welded bellows provide robust performance in environments with extreme temperature changes by providing a multi-layer welded construction that maintains a dependable seal, thus increasing the service life of a bellows.
Corrosive Media:
The use of edge-welded bellows made of Hastelloy, Titanium or AM350 in many applications provides superior resistance to corrosion due to their resistance to acids and alkalies. These materials are typically used in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and electroplating industries and give reliable performance at high pH.
High-Speed Applications:
Edge-welded bellows minimize the sliding of the shaft, which leads to less wear and heat generation. This provides for reliable performance under continuous high-speed conditions.
Crystallizable or Particulate Media:
Edge-welded bellows are designed to be self-cleaning and therefore prevent the accumulation of solids or crystallized materials. This characteristic makes them suitable for industries such as salt production, fertilizer production, and chemical processing, where the media may become solidified or contain suspended particles.
Vacuum and High Pressure Applications:
Edge-welded bellows are suitable for all UHV (Ultra-High Vacuum) and Deep Vacuum applications as well as High Pressure applications, where complete sealing and zero leakage are critical. The welded diaphragm of edge-welded bellows also provides a hermetically sealed design and the ability to withstand an extreme range of differential pressures.
