Advantages of Edge Welded Metal Bellows

Centrifugal Forces

When edge welded vacuum bellows form part of the rotating assembly, the centrifugal force generated by the rotating assembly creates a natural self-cleaning action which enhances stability.

Media Crystallization

The design of edge welded vacuum bellows does not allow for the possibility of media escaping as a result of either crystal formation or dramatic temperature fluctuation. This means that the edge welded vacuum bellows are extremely reliable when sealing difficult-to-seal types of media.

Ease of Maintenance

In-depth inspection (looking for excessive heat, leakage, fatigue) enables continuous reliable operation of edge welded vacuum bellows, as well as significantly reducing the number of replacement seals that would otherwise be required due to fatigue failure or cosmetic issues.

UHV Systems:

Suitable for UHV applications found in laboratories and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, where the welded edge provides the least amount of outgassing and the best overall long-term stability.

Cryogenic Applications:

Engineered for cryogenic media, it is able to maintain flexibility and seal integrity during thermal cyclical contractions and expansions.

High-Speed Pumps:

The bellows seals provide a self-cleaning characteristic through the means of cleaning debris off the sealing faces as the bellows rotates.

Corrosive Vacuum Media:

Applications for creating vacuum seals are also applicable with corrosive media from acids or bases; with chemical resistant metals such as Hastelloy and Titanium being used in this type of application.

How to Install Welded Metal Bellows Mechanical Seals？

When installing a welded metal bellows mechanical seal, first, check that the shaft does not have excessive runout, and then use a properly calibrated set of tools to push the seal firmly to its location. Next, ensure all fasteners are tightened evenly, and finally rotate the shaft by hand to verify there are no areas of interference between the mechanical seal and the shaft.

Can the product be customized for large dimensions?

Yes. Metric sizes over 150 mm can be customized.
