Welded edge vacuum bellows are designed to provide a hermetic seal when used in extreme hermeticity and vacuum environments. The mechanical seal is constructed using the bellows design, thus making it possible to eliminate all dynamic secondary seals, which helps reduce wear on the seal and any loss of seals leading to leaks. The welded bellows are manufactured with materials that are resistant to corrosion, and the sealing faces are comprised of materials such as graphite, silicon carbide or tungsten carbide, which provide exceptional wear characteristics.

Advantages of Edge Welded Vacuum Bellows

Ultra-Long Cycle Life:

The Edge-welded bellows distribute stress evenly over the diaphragm and help improve the overall quality of the bellows as a result of their reliable performance under high-frequency operation.

Zero Sliding & Minimal Shaft Wear

The welded bellows replace the spring element, preventing dynamic elastomer-to-shaft sliding, thus resulting in very little friction, heat generated, and prolonged shaft wear.

Self-Cleaning During Rotation

The centrifugal force created during rotation causes the solids to slide off the edge of the bellows, thereby preventing the adhesion of micro-particles and maintaining stable sealing surfaces over time.

Application Edge Welded Vacuum Bellows

UHV Systems:

Suitable for UHV applications found in laboratories and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, where the welded edge provides the least amount of outgassing and the best overall long-term stability.

Cryogenic Applications:

Engineered for cryogenic media, it is able to maintain flexibility and seal integrity during thermal cyclical contractions and expansions.

High-Speed Pumps:

The bellows seals provide a self-cleaning characteristic through the means of cleaning debris off the sealing faces as the bellows rotates.

Corrosive Vacuum Media:

Applications for creating vacuum seals are also applicable with corrosive media from acids or bases; with chemical resistant metals such as Hastelloy and Titanium being used in this type of application.
